It’s a “Christmas Tree”, People, not a freekin’ “Holiday Tree”!

I’m sure this post will get me some hate mail, but this topic really grinds my gears.

I think the world is trying to be too politically correct these days.  Because North America has become so multi-racial and multi-religious, we’re trying too hard to make sure that no one gets offended.  A wonderful idea, for sure.  But enough is enough.  North America was born of Christian principals.  If other people come to live in this land, they can still follow their own religion of course, but long-standing traditions should not be changed so that we do not ‘offend’ the people who have chosen to come here.

One of my biggest pet peeves every year is this:

IT’S A “CHIRSTMAS TREE”, PEOPLE, NOT A FREEKING “HOLIDAY TREE”!!!!  The huge Christmas tree at city Hall in Toronto is to be called a Holiday Tree from now on.  But Christmas Tree is what the object is called!!!

This object is called a “bird”.

This, my friends, is a “flower”.

Here is a photo of the object known as “chair”.

Do you see where I’m going, here??

Further clarification:                                                                                                                                                                                                  In this photo, we have what is known as a glider.

Whether or not someone celebrates the Christian holiday of Christmas, the object’s name should not change!  It is still a “Christmas Tree”, even if it is viewed through non-Christian eyes.

Behold.  This is the object known as (and once called) a “Christmas Tree”.

Some of my best friends are Jewish, and they still wish people a Merry Christmas.  Why?  Because they are not as tightly wound as the people who choose to go nuts if someone wishes them a Merry Christmas if they’re not Christian.

Here’s the way I look at it:  Pretend it’s December and you have just bought a scarf from a merchant.  The cashier finishes her interaction with a jovial “Merry Christmas”.  Who cares if you’re Christian!!!  The nice lady has just wished you well and said something very pleasant to you, whether or not you celebrate Christmas.  Can we not just focus on that??  Can we not just accept the heart-felt well-wishing we have just received instead of going nuts because she got your religious beliefs wrong??  Seriously??!!  What’s wrong with people these days??!!

Again, just so we’re clear, I have no problem what-so-ever with people in this country celebrating whatever religion or culture they choose (even though I know I will still get comments about my ‘intolerances’).  Good for them.  I, myself, am not even a religious person.  To me, this issue has less to do with religion and more to do with intolerances.  But it drives me crazy when the long-standing culture of this nation is changed so that we don’t ‘offend’ those who are not Christian.

Again, I think people are just too tightly wound and need to chill out a bit.  In the words of Jack Nicholson’s Joker in Batman, “This town needs an enema!”
